Memory Lane: 1980s ~ Shirt Tales

Shirt Tales were adorable animal characters created in 1980 by Janet Elizabeth Manco that were featured on Hallmark Greeting Cards.
These characters were so popular that they were adapted into a television animated series by Hanna-Barbera Productions from 1982-1985 which were televised on NBC. Their last year they were part of the beloved Saturday Morning cartoons.

The characters were:

  • Tyg Tiger in orange (Original Character)
  • Pammy Panda in pink (Original Character)
  • Digger Mole in light blue (Original Character)
  • Rick Racoon in red (Original Character)
  • Bogey Orangutan in green (Original Character)
  • Kip Kangaroo in yellow
  • Buck Beaver in light blue
  • Priarie Dog Pete in red, with a black vest
  • Filmore Coyote in light green
  • Violette Skunk in yellow
  • Hoozit Owl in lavendar
  • Cubby Bear in Red
They all wore shirts that flashed messages reflecting the characters' feelings. They lived in Oak Tree Park and spent their days impishly distracting the park custodian, Mr. Dinkel, and fighting crime in their town named Mid City.  They had a very cool ride, the STSST ~ Shirt Tale's SuperSonic Transport, which would morph into different forms or transportation such as a car, boat, submarine, jet or whatever was needed on their current adventure.
